The Idea and Path of General Education in British Universities

Abstract: General education as a kind of education idea of university has attracted much attention, but people have different understanding about it. As the hometown of liberalism, British has emerged in many liberal thinkers, their elaborations on liberal education have laid a theoretical foundation for general education in British universities. Although there are no specialized curriculums offering general education, those universities adhere to the principle of integration between general education and professional education, and penetrate this spirit in all the teaching process. The ideas and practical routes of general education in British universities will provide new perspectives for reflecting China’s general education in university.
